Second ad, titled “Broke,” focuses on Barber’s commitment to protecting Medicare
Tucson, AZ – Ron Barber for Congress today began airing its second ad in the general election for Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District. The ad, a thirty-second spot titled “Broke,” shows Muriel, a senior and constituent in Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District who relies on Medicare. The ad also highlights Barber discussing his commitment to protecting Social Security and Medicare.
“I’m running because I want to protect Medicare for Southern Arizona’s seniors,” said Barber. “Our seniors have paid into Medicare through a lifetime of hard work, and they have a right to the important benefits the program provides. We must never turn Medicare into a voucher system.”
Barber has lived and worked in Southern Arizona for 50 years. Prior to being elected to Congress, he ran Congresswoman Giffords’ district office, directed the Arizona Division of Developmental Disabilities, and owned and operated a small business for 22 years with his wife, Nancy.
Since being elected to represent Congressional District 8 in June, Barber has voted to keep taxes low for middle class families, fund infrastructure jobs in Arizona, and prevent student loan rates from doubling. The first amendment Barber introduced in Congress called for redirecting funding from administrative the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development to provide housing for 77,000 homeless veterans. Barber has also introduced two pieces of bipartisan legislation: a bill to combat the ‘poaching’ of veterans’ pensions and another that would ensure better coordination between law enforcement agencies as they work to secure the border.
