Tucson, AZ – Ron Barber released the following statement today regarding HB 2625, an overreaching proposal that would allow employers to deny women insurance coverage for contraception.
“This week the Arizona State Legislature introduced legislation that would allow employers to dictate health care decisions that should be made by a woman and her doctor.
“Modeled on a bill in Congress that would make women seek permission from their employers in order to have birth control covered under their health insurance plan, HB2625 would do the same on the state level. Government should not be making such decisions for women, and neither should employers. Individual liberty is under attack in these misguided bills.
“In the past weeks, politicians in Washington and Arizona have been creating distractions from the real issues. It’s time to refocus on jobs and the economy. We have serious challenges facing our country and government should get out of people’s personal medical decisions and concentrate on putting people back to work.
“I call upon the other candidates for Congress in CD8 to join me in standing against HB2625.”
